Lesson Sets
This semester, Solely Swing will be hosting weekly lessons every Wednesday. The beginner lesson takes place from 8-9pm in McBryde 316. These lessons are FREE OF CHARGE and require no prior experience. Our new structure means that you can start at any time and still learn something new! After the lesson, there will be a brief social dance. Please bring your own mask and water bottle. We recommend wearing clothing and shoes that you can move in.
New this semester, Solely Swing will be offering progressive lessons. In order to advance to progressive lessons, you must be able to demonstrate basic swing dance moves. Progressive lessons are taught every Wednesday from 7-8pm in McBryde 316. If you enroll, you are expected to show up to every lesson in the series. Please bring your own mask and water bottle. We recommend wearing clothing and shoes that you can move in.

Sunday, November 14th, 6-9pm, Commonwealth Ballroom Join us for some food lovin’ fun as we dance to food songs in preparation for Thanksgiving! Dance with as many people as you can to collect all the ingredients to a secret recipe for a sweet surprise. New to dancing? No problem! Friday, October 8th, 6-9pm, Owens Ballroom Welcome in the spooky or sleepy season (whichever you prefer) with Solely Swing! Dress up in your halloween costume, OR dress down if your comfiest PJs. VT Trivia Swing Dance
Saturday, Sept 4th, 6-9pm, Commonwealth Ballroom Solely Swing's first dance of the semester is a VT Trivia puzzle on September 4th in Commonwealth Ballroom! Dance with as many people as possible to collect clues and fill out the crossword puzzle. You'll be answering questions about general VT trivia, as well as about Solely Swing! We have some fun prizes for our first 3 winners! For this event, we encourage you to dress up in all of your Hokie apparel! New to dancing? We'll help you learn the basics with our beginner lesson at 6pm and keep you dancing til 9pm, no partner or experience necessary! Did we mention it's FREE? Second In-Person Dance Lesson - Queen Bee
Saturday, April 24th, 7:45-9:15pm. Pre-registration link Join us for our SECOND and FINAL in-person dance lesson of the semester! At this event, Katrina Newby from Solely Swing and Steven Belcher from Blacksburg Swing Dance will be teaching Queen Bee, a blues line dance. This lesson is open to dancers of all levels, no experience or partner required. We will be following social distancing guidelines throughout the duration of the event. Masks and pre-registration are required. Please bring your own mask and water bottle to this event. Attendance will be capped at 10 people per the governor's ordinance. You will be notified via email if you are placed on the waitlist. |

Saturday, March 20th, 7-8:30pm, Zoom Link Come join us for our SECOND and FINAL of two online community nights this semester! Everyone is welcome no matter where you are. It's also free! This community night will feature a crazy hat/wig contest, so show up with your craziest headpiece! At these community nights, we will be playing games like Cards Against Humanity, Codenames, Jackbox games, and generally having fun. We look forward to seeing you there! |
First In-Person Dance Lesson -Smiley's Charleston
Saturday, February 20th, 7:45-9:15pm. Pre-registration link Join us for our FIRST of two in-person dance lessons this semester! At this event, Steven Belcher from Blacksburg Swing Dance will be teaching a solo dance choreography (Smiley's Charleston). This lesson is open to dancers of all levels, no experience or partner required. We will be following social distancing guidelines throughout the duration of the event. Masks and pre-registration are required. Please bring your own mask and water bottle to this event. Attendance will be capped at 10 people per the governor's ordinance. You will be notified via email if you are placed on the waitlist, and given priority for the next in person event if you are unable to attend due to the attendance limit. |

Online Dance Lessons - RECURRING
Every other Friday 7-8:30pm, Link: expired Join Solely Swing as we kick off our first unit of online dance lessons! In these lessons, we will cover a variety of solo swing dances, potentially including Lindy Hop basics, solo jazz, solo Charleston, and line dances.
